Promoting Literacy and Literary Potential Among African Children.
About ACAR
African Child Arise and Read (ACAR) is a non-profit foundation that is affiliated to Benel Afrika Foundation. It was established to encourage African children to read and develop their literary potential. ACAR aims to make reading accessible to all children, especially those from poverty-stricken areas.
The foundation implements initiatives such as mobile libraries, funding for permanent library construction and maintenance, book and writing material donations, writing competitions, and enrichment talks and workshops for aspiring writers.
The ultimate goal is to raise the next generation of successful writers and bring positive change to Africa.
Addressing the Literacy Challenges
In sub-Saharan Africa, approximately 75 million children are out of school, with two-thirds of them being girls. Many of these children come from poverty-stricken areas and face literacy challenges that hinder their learning and future prospects.
Less than 20% of African children have access to books at home, which is crucial for developing reading skills. ACAR aims to address these challenges by providing mobile libraries, funding permanent libraries, donating books and writing materials, and organizing writing competitions.
By improving literacy skills and promoting a love for reading and writing, ACAR strives to empower African children and enhance their personal and professional growth.
Impact and Financial Overview
ACAR’s initiatives have the potential to significantly impact African children by improving their literacy skills and increasing access to books and reading materials.
These initiatives also promote a love for reading and writing, enhancing their chances of success in school and future careers.
To sustain and expand these efforts, ACAR requires funding for costs such as books, writing materials, transportation for mobile libraries, writing competitions, and enrichment talks.
The foundation is open to additional resources and support to ensure the long-term sustainability of its mission.
